Unique Rock Candles
Andy Zakrzewski has been dabbling with rocks and sourcing out rock quarries from across Canada for eight years now. Transforming a plethora of these one-of-a-kind rocks into genuine candles, Andy takes special care in choosing rocks that stand out from the rest, with the most vibrant colourings such as red and blue.
In 2010 when Andy founded his rock candle business, the rocks quickly gained popularity. In 2011, at the Home Country Folk Festival, Andy won the Best Product Design Award. Andy hand picks each unique rock and is adamant about leaving the natural layout of the land untouched. He travels across Canada to find the perfect rocks that are unique in colour, texture and striations. He chooses from his collection of fine slate, limestone and some granite to create his stunning rock candle art pieces.
Growing up spending Andy’s summers on Georgian Bay, the flickering light of the campfire was the perfect way to conclude a day of exploration and adventures. The soft glow of the flames would bring joy – which seemed to encompass the idea of simple living, removed from the stresses of day-to-day life. He enjoys bringing elegance to your home décor with his calming candles – in order to share a positive ambience with family and friends alike.
From his cottage in Pointe au Baril, to his home in Caledon, Andy’s exclusive rock candle work is created, and then showcased at a collection of art and craft shows, farmers’ markets, and home shows. They are an exquisite accent to landscapes and home décor and their burning flame is perfect for meditating.
The Rock Candle Creation Process:
Andy uses a simple yet unique process to create the rock candles. The journey starts with finding that perfect, natural rock, shaped and sculpted, with a reservoir bonded to the bottom. A hole is drilled through the rock to allow a fiberglass wick to be inserted. A measured amount of fuel is poured into the reservoir with a funnel.
