About Denis Guertin – Ébéniste – Artisan WoodWorker

We operate a woodworking shop from our home basement, where we create one-of-a-kind, handmade products. Every piece is made by my wife Monique, our son Bruno, and me. We craft wooden game boards for children and adults, along with cutting boards and butcher blocks for the kitchen.
Our products
Wood – Each piece is truly evolving into a unique one-of-a-kind functional art end product. Our product are wood board games (Cribbage, Tock-Aggravation, Baseball, Football, Frustration Rummy, Race, Rota, Royal game of Ur, Euchre, Nine Men Morris, Rummoli, Chinese Checkers, Mancala, etc.), cards and cell phone holders, clocks, side tables, charcuterie boards and butcher blocks.
3D printed – When we needed game pieces for some of our wooden game boards, we learned to make them with a 3D printer. Today, we use 3D printing not only for game pieces, but also to design and create original games and accessories. All of our 3D printed products are our own designs and creations.
How it started
Our story began in 2004 when Monique and I were searching for a picnic table for our sons, then ages 4 and 6. Unable to find anything suitable other than plastic options, I bought a bench saw and a drill and built one myself. After 30 years in the corporate world, I decided in the fall of 2018 to pursue woodworking full time. As a self-taught artisan woodworker, I now continue this passion alongside my wife, Monique, and our son, Bruno.
The process
We begin with mill-sourced wood, which we plane, cut, glue, and sand into finished pieces. We also use discarded materials from flooring, door, and window casing companies, along with offcuts that we repurpose in our games, saving them from the fire pit. To protect each piece and enhance the natural beauty of the wood, we use food-grade glue along with mineral oil or linseed oil.
Creating process
We research ancient games in books and bring them back to life, giving our products a distinctive offering that sets us apart from other woodworkers. We create our own CNC designs to engrave the games on our boards, and each board is unique because we combine different wood species in every piece.
